It was the founders of Proff Kulde, CEO Mathias Ingebrigtsen and technical leader Morten Andre Engen that were the driving forces behind the wish to focus on development work and self-designed products. Together with the rest of the team they slowly established a beliefe that the increased competence could lead the company many steps forward and at the same time provide more eco-friendly solutions for the customers.
In 2017 Proff Kulde started our own development work to design and produce improved chilling and heating technical solutions based on CO2 as a refrigerant. We do this work to accommodate the ever-stricter environmental requirements and to remain competitive in the market. After 1,5 years of work to create the first high pressure heat exchanger that’s designed correctly for refrigeration systems, the RSW-product CO2PRO™RSW was launched at the LofotFishing trade fair in 2019.
In recent years the company has cooperated with Innovation Norway and received financial support through their environment technology project. In 2018 Proff kulde´s first innovation project was presented at the Innovation Norway website, which gave a nice marketing effect for the company in the beginning of the commercialization of our own designed RSW-system. In 2020 the product was published at Innovation Norway´s website The Explorer, which is a collection of eco-friendly solutions from Norwegian companies using green technology.
In 2018 the finance manager, Lasse Pedersen, stated in the article at Innovation Norway: - The financial resources from Innovation Norway have been very important, without them this project would not be possible. Before we could deliver a demo system to our pilot customer, we had to test our hypotheses. The money from Innovation Norway gave us time to develop the system and make it more eco-friendly, which I believe will be crucial for our company in upcoming years.
The SkatteFUNN Tax Deduction Scheme has also been an important aid scheme to our company and makes it easier to allocate time to focus on improving and optimizing our solutions. Technical leader Morten Andre Engen is a central driving force in our innovative work. Parallel to our development work, our company management work to get our products patented to protect self-developed technology.
For several years Proff Kulde has worked to deliver future orientated and eco-friendly products to our customers. Research and development are important to us to be able to provide the best eco-friendly solutions. We wish to offer sustainable solutions with a minimum degree of negative impact to the environment. Proff Kulde is leading in the industry with our technology development, and we are always improving our components, the composition of our components, design, simplifications and streamlining of our building process and further development of our management processes. We consider our work unique and groundbreaking because our system design is a huge simplification (up to 40% less components in small systems) without any impact on efficiency and energy consumption.
Proff Kulde has a unique competence in chilling and heating facilities based on CO2 as a natural refrigerant and affiliate PLC systems (programmable logic controller systems). The company is currently working on many new solutions and are discovering new opportunities based on our competence gained through earlier work. If the opportunity presents itself, the company wish to go international in upcoming years. To reach our goal we are constantly focusing on development work, both on the products in demand and on the work to choose the right strategy going forward. CEO Mathias Ingebrigtsen described some of these ambitions in the local newspaper, Våganavisa, last fall: - It´s all about the strategy we decided on a couple of years ago. We decided to focus on development work in all parts of our company. We develop our own products, which are eco-friendly. It is what Norway, and the rest of the world will need in the future. The decision to invest all our money in development from that point on, has given us an edge to many competitors. It makes it easier to compete on upcoming jobs. We will see the effect of this strategy in the future.
Proff Kulde work to satisfy several of the UN´s goals for sustainable development through innovation. We focus on simplification in construction design without any negative effects on efficiency and energy consumption. Our innovation work is good for the environment by:
Using natural refrigerants – CO2
Simplification of construction complexity
Increased efficiency in chilling- and heating facilities (COP).
Proff Kulde was certified by the foundation Eco-Lighthouse April 2. 2020, and we are proud to be one of about 20 businesses in Vågan municipality that has chosen to implement this programme as a tool for eco-friendly leadership.
In recent years we have focused on innovation and sustainability environmental technology and are happy to have received this certification!
Proff Kulde´s RSW-solution was published on the website The Explorer which is a marketplace that connects Norwegian businesses to the international market.
Proff Kulde has future ambitions to deliver our chilling and heating systems to the international market.
Proff Kulde is one of five companies from Vågan that can claim the title Gazelle Company of 2020.
The Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv has elected Norway´s most successful companies since 2003. This year Proff Kulde shared the honor of being a Gazelle Company with four other companies from Vågan: Havbryn AS, Lofoten Electro AS, Northern Alpine Guides AS and Småen AS.
Criteria for gazelle companies:
Approved accounts
At least doubled annual turnover for four years
A turnover of more than one million NOK the first year
A positive overall operating profit
Avoided declining turnover
Been a stock company
Proff Kulde has employees with a high level of competence on many different areas. Together our technicians possess many decades of experience on problem solving and startups of complex chilling- and heat pump systems.
Our overall goal is to deliver chilling and heat technical facilities with as small as possible negative environmental effect. Through innovation and product development we will continue to develop our solutions in a way that will contribute to a greener business. Proff Kulde is unique in our competence on systems based on CO2 as a natural refrigerant and affiliated PLS-systems (control systems).
We work to achieve a change of attitude towards CO2 as a refrigerant. Our experience is that CO2 is a better alternative compared to traditional refrigerants than previously thought. We often have a negative experience with COP on ammonia installations, whereas CO2 works as well as, or better than expected. CO2 has often proved to be the best alternative regarding energy consumption per produced KW cold or heat. (Technical leader Morten A. Engen)

Proff Kulde participated on the conference “Kick off Lofotene 2030 – The Green Islands” that was arranged October 22. 2020.
The founders of “The Green Islands” are Lofotkraft, Lofotrådet and Destination Lofoten. The motivation for the project is to create an umbrella for all kinds of activities that works towards Lofoten becoming a low emission society.
We are cheering for this local initiative to work towards a low emission society. Lofoten needs innovative and eco-friendly solutions, and we hope that “The Green Islands” is a cooperation that can lead to concrete projects for local businesses in upcoming years.
