Cooling and heat reuse for data centers

A data hall turns electricity into heat around the clock. The cooling plant has to remove it without stopping, and more and more operators are asked what they do with the heat afterwards.

  1. 1Data hall Server racks inside. Only a chilled-water circuit goes in and out of the building; no refrigerant enters.
  2. 2Plant room All the CO2PRO units in one place, easy to service and maintain. The CO₂ (R744) circuit is sealed inside each unit.
  3. 3Heat to the neighbours The hall never needs its own heat. When someone else does – a neighbour, a heat network – the hot water goes there.
  4. 4Dry coolers When nobody needs the heat, the diverter sends the hot water to the fans and the heat goes to air.
Only water crosses the wall of the data hall. All the CO2PRO units stand together in their own plant room, and the CO₂ (R744) circuit is sealed inside each unit. The heat leaves as hot water: to neighbours or a heat network when someone needs it, otherwise to the dry coolers, where it goes to air. Illustrative system principle, simplified. Not a delivered installation.

Challenges we can help with

  1. Chilled water for the facility loop

Cooling at the facility loop interface, sized to the hall as it is today and at full build-out.

  2. Heat reuse to the building or a heating network

The heat removed from the hall is delivered where it can be used, instead of being rejected.

  3. Part load and redundancy

Several units in parallel for N+1 redundancy, with part-load operation as the hall fills up.

  4. Figures for reporting

Flow, temperatures and running state on one screen, so energy reporting is a readout rather than an estimate.

What the plants offer

Cooling and useful heat from one machine
Water-to-water chiller and heat pump in one unit, ejector available as an option.
Scalable from low to high capacity
A model series per family, and several units in parallel when the duty grows. Sized to your figures, never read off a shelf.
R744, a natural refrigerant
Not toxic, not flammable, GWP of one, and no phase-out date. It does not require a fire-rated EX machinery room, and it is well suited to heat recovery.
Made for retrofit
Compact units that fit into existing machinery rooms and plant rooms, replacing older plants without rebuilding the room around them.
PLC-controlled HMI with options
Our own control system and screen, with integrated flow measurement, valve control, remote access and a range of options chosen for your plant.

How it works

Illustrative system principle

  1. Data hall

The facility water loop carries the heat away from the hall.

  2. CO₂ plant

Chills the loop and lifts the heat to a useful temperature in the same machine.

  3. Heat receiver

The building itself or a local heating network.

Cooling only
The loop is chilled and the heat is rejected outside, as any chiller does.
Cooling with heat reuse
The same machine delivers the heat to the receiver instead, when there is one that can take it.
