Heating and cooling on board

For HVAC integrators and yards. Accommodation, tap water and technical spaces need chilled water and heat, often at the same time, in a machinery room with no spare space and a class society that reads every drawing.

Ship HVAC with three chillers, an air handling unit and a seawater heat exchangerThree chiller units circulate chilled water through the cooling coil in an air handling unit. The fan supplies cooled air through ducts to several cabins. A separate closed heat rejection circuit connects the chillers to a seawater heat exchanger. Seawater passes through a separate side of that exchanger and returns to the sea. Seawater, the closed water circuits and the supply air do not mix. Equipment and pipework are illustrative.Air handling unitCooling coil + supply fanCooled air to the cabinsMachinery roomThree chiller units togetherR744R744R744Seawater heat exchangerSeparate water circuitsSeawater inBack to seaIllustrative cutaway · Equipment and pipework simplifiedShip HVAC with three chillers, an air handling unit and a seawater heat exchangerThree chiller units circulate chilled water through the cooling coil in an air handling unit. Challenges we can help with

  1. Chilled water for accommodation and technical spaces

The water loop that serves cabins, air handling and equipment rooms, from a unit in the machinery room.

  2. Heat for the heating circuit and tap water

The same unit works as a heat pump and delivers the heat the ship otherwise buys as fuel or electricity.

  3. A machinery room with no spare space

CO₂ does not require a fire-rated EX machinery room, so the unit can stand where there is room. New builds and retrofit.

  4. Class approval

Units can be supplied with class approval – DNV, BV or Lloyd’s Register.

What the plants offer

Heat and cold from one unit with class approval
Chiller and heat pump in one unit, with the technical file the class society expects.
Scalable from low to high capacity
A model series per family, and several units in parallel when the duty grows. Sized to your figures, never read off a shelf.
R744, a natural refrigerant
Not toxic, not flammable, GWP of one, and no phase-out date. It does not require a fire-rated EX machinery room, and it is well suited to heat recovery.
Made for retrofit
Compact units that fit into existing machinery rooms and plant rooms, replacing older plants without rebuilding the room around them.
PLC-controlled HMI with options
Our own control system and screen, with integrated flow measurement, valve control, remote access and a range of options chosen for your plant.

How it works

Illustrative system principle

  1. Chilled water

The unit chills the water loop that serves accommodation and technical spaces.

  2. CO₂ unit

The heat taken out of the chilled water is lifted to a useful temperature in the same machine.

  3. Heat on board

Tap water and heating take the heat. What cannot be used is rejected.
