Industrial heating and cooling

Many sites buy energy for heat while the cooling plant rejects heat. One CO₂ plant can do both jobs, when the temperatures and the timing of the loads fit.

One CO2PRO Chiller/Heat unit between a borehole and a dry cooler, serving a ventilation unit, a fan coil, a hot-water cylinder and floor heatingThe unit has a dry cooler and a borehole on the external side and a ventilation unit, a fan coil, a hot-water cylinder and floor heating on the building side. The picture changes between three operating modes: cooling for ventilation, heat uptake from the borehole, and heat uptake from outdoor air via the dry cooler. Lines that do not belong to the current mode are grey.Dry coolerBoreholeVentilation unitFan coilHot-water cylinderFloor heatingCO2PRO Chiller/HeatChiller and heat pumpRefrigerant stays inside the unit.

Cool the supply air. Recover the heat.

Chilled water from the unit serves the cooling coil of the ventilation unit. The heat taken out goes to the hot-water cylinder when it needs it, and surplus heat goes to the dry cooler. The heating side of the building stands idle.

Illustrative system principle: one unit with a borehole and a dry cooler as examples of the external side. Source, heat sink, pumps, buffers, mixing valves and control are not specified. Not a delivered installation.

Challenges we can help with

  1. Process cooling that holds the setpoint

Chilled water or brine for production, with the redundancy the process needs.

  2. Heat recovery to the building or a heating network

The heat taken out of the process delivered as useful heat: building heat, drying, tap water or a local heating network.

  3. Ice rinks, airport buildings, drying and ice production

Cool the ice and heat the hall; heating and cooling for large buildings; heat for stockfish and clipfish drying; chilled water for ice machines.

  4. Replace an older plant

Retrofit of existing chillers and boilers with one natural-refrigerant plant in the same room.

What the plants offer

Cooling and useful heat from one machine
Water-to-water chiller and heat pump in one unit, ejector available as an option.
Scalable from low to high capacity
A model series per family, and several units in parallel when the duty grows. Sized to your figures, never read off a shelf.
R744, a natural refrigerant
Not toxic, not flammable, GWP of one, and no phase-out date. It does not require a fire-rated EX machinery room, and it is well suited to heat recovery.
Made for retrofit
Compact units that fit into existing machinery rooms and plant rooms, replacing older plants without rebuilding the room around them.
PLC-controlled HMI with options
Our own control system and screen, with integrated flow measurement, valve control, remote access and a range of options chosen for your plant.

How it works

Illustrative system principle

  1. Process load

The process or building that has to be held at temperature.

  2. CO₂ plant

Takes the heat out of the process and lifts it to a useful temperature.

  3. Heat receiver

Building, drying or a local heating network.

Cooling only
The process is cooled and the heat is rejected outside, as any chiller does.
Cooling with heat recovery
The same machine delivers the rejected heat to the receiver instead, when the loads and temperatures fit.
