The catch starts to change in the first hours.

Sea water cooling for fishing vessels

Purse seiners, trawlers and coastal vessels share one problem in three hull sizes: warm catch, a tank that fills fast and an engine room with no spare metre.

The pump always runs the same way: suction on the bottom header, pressure on the top. The twelve tank valves (green when open) decide whether the water enters each tank through the top perforated pipe and leaves through the bottom one, or the other way round. The gas cooler is cooled by a separate seawater circuit. Illustrative system principle, simplified. Not a delivered installation.

Challenges we can help with

  1. Chill the catch tank fast

Tank seawater brought down from sea temperatures of up to 35 °C to about −1 °C, and held there through the trip.

  2. Capacity for your tank volume and catch rate

The plant is sized to how fast the tank fills and the water you actually fish in.

  3. Fit the engine room you have

New builds and retrofit in existing hulls, within the space and the power available on board.

  4. Freezing on board

Chiller units with brine down to −35 °C out to plate freezers and freezing tunnels. Ask us.

What the plants offer

Titanium heat exchangers built in-house
Designed and made by us for seawater duty, not bought from a catalogue.
Scalable from low to high capacity
A model series per family, and several units in parallel when the duty grows. Sized to your figures, never read off a shelf.
R744, a natural refrigerant
Not toxic, not flammable, GWP of one, and no phase-out date. It does not require a fire-rated EX machinery room, and it is well suited to heat recovery.
Made for retrofit
Compact units that fit into existing machinery rooms and plant rooms, replacing older plants without rebuilding the room around them.
PLC-controlled HMI with options
Our own control system and screen, with integrated flow measurement, valve control, remote access and a range of options chosen for your plant.

How it works

Illustrative system principle

  1. Catch into chilled seawater

The catch goes straight into a tank of chilled seawater; the RSW circuit keeps that water cold.

  2. 6 hours: 3 °C or colder

Fish and seawater down to no more than 3 °C after six hours.

  3. 16 hours: 0 °C

Down to 0 °C after sixteen hours, and held there with temperature monitoring.

  4. Landing at the quay

The catch is landed at the temperature the receiving plant expects.
